Endowment Information

Scholarship Fund

Post-secondary scholarships are funded by an endowment of about $2M. This provides college scholarships to qualifying students from North and Northeast Portland.  Prior to the university’s closure, many donors were very enthusiastic about the flagship “3 to PhD” program with Faubion and the annual “Vic Atiyeh Leadership in Education” fundraising awards.  These emphasized creating educational pathways for young people in the disadvantaged community that surrounded the university, and especially students of the Faubion catchment area, so they could eventually be successful college students. This scholarship fund will honor that interest.

STEAM Education Fund

Scholarships aimed toward communities without a track record of college attendance are most effective when combined with other supports.  STEAM programs are a proven, effective way to raise a community and students to a higher educational attainment and a better economic situation.   For example, STEAM activities and education in lower grade levels help build a pipeline of students who are in a position to pursue further education and be successful scholarship recipients.

The foundation put considerable effort into seeding STEAM at Faubion, and continues that momentum with a fund that supports STEAM education programs that invest in the Concordia area.  Our primary partner for STEAM capacity building is the Northeast STEAM Coalition because they have specialized expertise and community connections that are needed for an impact in this area.
